J. Robert Williamson, Principal

Bob Williamson is the founder of Westport Strategy.  He has an excellent track record in creating and executing programs that drive growth and increase shareowner value.   Senior executives view him as a trusted advisor on merger, acquisition and divestiture decisions.   He has a proven ability to lead the full cycle of partnership activity, from building the business case and leading negotiations to execution and management.   He possesses a strong ability to understand customer behavior and competitive performance.  He has expertise at developing and implementing leading edge approaches to business valuation and quantitative analysis.  

Prior to founding Westport Strategy, Bob was with McKesson Corporation as Director of Business Development for their RelayHealth unit and as Vice President of Finance and Strategy for Moore Medical.   At RelayHealth, Bob refreshed the Patient Solutions strategy and build out a corporate development roadmap.   He developed business cases and negotiated partnerships to close product gaps and extend into adjacent segments.  While at Moore, Bob helped create a new vision, mission and growth plan that leveraged wellness trends and focused on key segment growth opportunities.  Bob championed the idea, built the business case and led an initiative focused on improving the customer experience.   He created and implemented a new pricing optimization system that delivered real-time guidance to sales reps.

Previously, Bob was Director of Strategy and Business Development for G&K Services, a $900M NASDAQ traded firm that markets branded work apparel programs and facilities services to North American businesses.    He built a department for strategic planning, corporate development, market research, competitive intelligence, and pricing strategy.  While at G&K, Bob led the development of a successful new corporate strategy, and created an accountability system to drive short and long-term performance.

Bob honed his strategy skills during his tenure at The Michael Allen Company, a blue chip boutique consulting firm founded by the former head of Strategic Planning for GE.   While at MAC, Bob designed a global business development plan for GE Transportation that generated $700M in incremental revenue.  He launched a successful marketing plan for CNA Insurance that designed programs to expand distribution and enter new product lines and doubled their growth rate over three years.   Bob increased the sales effectiveness of Mallinckrodt Imaging.   He advised the CEO of The Home Depot on the viability of a division and on optimal merger candidates for the firm.   Bob also helped design the customer information strategy for the head of research at The Home Depot.

Bob started his career at Kraft Foods.   His last role there was the finance leader of a $300M business unit with responsibility for strategic and operating plan development, financial reporting and business analysis.

Bob has an MBA from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, and advanced professional certificate in Strategy and Marketing from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and a BSBA in Marketing from the University of Florida.
